‘Carry-On’ Taron Egerton Netflix Movie: What We Know So Far

Carry-On, produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and starring Kingsman’s Taron Egerton, is one of Netflix’s most anticipated upcoming films. Here’s everything we know about Carry-On so far.

The film will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who has helmed projects including The Shallows, Unknown, Jungle Cruise and Black Adam, both starring Dwayne Johnson.

TJ Fixman penned the first draft of the screenplay, with Michael Green doing the final polish. Fixman is also currently attached to Netflix’s Past Midnight.

First announced in July 2022, Carry-On is one of several projects in the pipeline produced by Amblin Partners as part of their overall deal with Netflix. Amblin Partners is led by Steven Spielberg and said the deal was called off in June 2021.

Holly Bario, president of production for Amblin, will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.

Brian Williams will serve as executive producer through Dylan Clark Productions, along with Scott Greenberg and Seth William Meier.

The thriller centers on Ethan Kopek, a young TSA agent who is blackmailed by a mysterious traveler into letting a dangerous package pass through security and onto a Christmas Day flight.

Who is cast in Carry-On?

Netflix’s Carry-On will star Taron Egerton in the lead role, Ethan Kopek.

Egerton’s most recent projects include The Kingsman, Rocketman and Black Bird. Deadline’s sources say he was the only actor who read and met on the project; he and Collet-Serra hit it off immediately and a deal to sign soon followed.

Since Egerton’s casting, two additional casting rounds have been announced by Netflix, with one batch on September 26 and the other on October 17, 2022.

What is the production status of Carry-On?

Netflix’s Carry-On is currently in pre-production and filming is set to begin September 26, 2022 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States.

Production is tentatively set to wrap on December 16, 2022, according to Production Weekly issue 1309.

TJ Fixman posted on Instagram that he received a gift from Netflix to celebrate the start of production.

What is the Netflix release date for Carry-On?

Netflix hasn’t announced any date for Carry-On, but given its very early stage of development, we can probably only expect a release date in late 2023 or 2024.
