Has Netflix renewed Dead to Me for a third season?

Official Netflix Renewal Status: Renewed (Last Updated: 06/07/2020)

Just two months after Dead to Me Season 2 premiered, Netflix announced that the series would go back for a third and final release on Netflix.

It should come as no surprise that Dead to Me has been renewed again, with the series ranking high in the most popular TV series lists on Netflix. In particular, it topped the US charts when it was released.

On renewal, Christina Applegate took to social media to share his thoughts on the announcement of the final season saying “I will miss these ladies. But we thought that was the best way to connect the story of these women. Thanks to all the fans. We will resume work when it is safe to do so.

Fans who thought the show faced Netflix’s dreaded cancellation curse should know that the show was always meant to end early and not last for seasons and seasons. Liz Feldman, in an interview, said she always imagined it wouldn’t be “a long-running show”.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Feldman elaborated, saying:

“I always felt like I wanted this show to be relatively short. I understand the Netflix landscape. It’s very rare for them to have a show that lasts five, six or seven seasons. It can happen, but that’s obviously the exception. Halfway through filming the second season, an idea came to me that felt very true to the show – and I realized that this could be a really good way to do it. to end.

The good news is that Liz Feldman will stay with Netflix once Dead to Me concludes. She signed an overall deal, which means all of the creator’s new projects will come to Netflix. However, no other new projects have yet been announced.

When will Season 3 of Dead to Me be released on Netflix?

The third and final season of Dead to Me will be released on Netflix on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Dead to Me Season 3 Production Schedule

Writing began shortly after its renewal and it then took several months for the scripts to be handed over to Netflix for approval.

September 18, 2020 Liz Feldman took to Twitter to share that she pitched the third season “to my partners” and was approved.

The Tweet read:

“I just pitched all of Season 3 of Dead to Me to my castmates at Netflix and they’re excited and I’m excited and I can’t believe they’re gonna let me tell this story”

In October 2020, we learned that CBS Studios was planning to begin filming for Season 3 in January 2021. It had been stated in previous interviews that production would not begin until December 2020 at the earliest.

In January 2021, it was reported by ProductionWeekly that filming was to begin later that month. But again, thanks to the uncertainty of the global pandemic, the dates have been pushed back yet again.

Filming began on May 10, 2021, and was scheduled to wrap on August 2, 2021. Lead actress Christina Applegate shared a photo of one of the Dead to Me chairs to all, but confirmed filming was underway. Production was originally scheduled to end in September 2021.

However, in August 2021, Christina Applegate revealed that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis several months before. According to multiple sources, production “temporarily halted” around this time and since then we haven’t heard any news about the show resuming.

Deadline reported in December 2021 that filming resumed in 2021 but was again canceled due to multiple cases of COVID-19. According to Deadline, there were still three weeks of filming left at the end of 2021, which took place in early 2022.

On February 11, 2022, Diana Maria Riva posted on Instagram to say that filming was over for Season 3 (at least as far as her involvement goes). This suggested to us that production was coming to an end.

His message was accompanied by the following caption:

“And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the end of the series for Det. Pérez. So grateful to have been a part of this…So excited for all of you to see this story unfold. Much love to my family # DTM!!!”

Liz Feldman confirmed on Instagram on April 26, 2022 that filming wrapped in the final season. She posted a photo of a chair with the Dead to Me logo from Laguna Beach, California, alongside the caption (edited for brevity):

“It’s over for Dead to Me S3! Filming is done. Editing is underway. Final season is coming. And shit… Christina Apple Gate Linda Cardellini, James Marsden, Sam McCarthy, Luke Roessler, Diana Maria Riva, Brandon Scott, Suzy Nakamura all knock it out of the park. So excited for you to see it.

What to expect from Dead to Me season 3 on Netflix

*Dead to Me Season 2 Spoiler Warning*

The consequences of the accident

Ben, presumably on his way to identify the body of his deceased brother Steve, hit the car Jen and Judy were in at the intersection. The struggling alcoholic had been drinking whiskey and drove through a stop sign.

It’s unclear if Ben even realized it was Jen and Judy he punched, and whether or not the pair spotted Ben before he left.

This will weigh heavily on Ben, who may turn to another bottle, especially if he thinks he killed the person in the car, let alone be close to identifying the body of his dead brother.

Jen and Judy are conscious, but it’s unclear what injuries the pair may have suffered. If the duo learns that it was Ben who was driving, we can expect an awkward confrontation between them.

Charlie finds Judy’s letter

After looking for weed in Judy’s room, Charlie finds the letter his mother, Jen, had written for Judy.

It is not revealed if Charlie actually read the letter, but if he did, then he will have learned of Judy’s involvement in her father’s hit-and-run death. Not to mention his mother’s guilt in Steve’s murder.

Such evidence would make him innocent as he is still a suspect in Steve’s disappearance.

Charlie has been shown to be extremely rebellious, so he could either end up blackmailing Judy and Jen or making their lives hell because of his father’s death.

Will Jen be caught?

Jen was prepared to face the consequences of Steve’s murder and confessed to Detective Perez. But after the couple were unable to find the body and had a heart-to-heart, Perez let her go.

Nick, who was hot on the case, received a bag of evidence from Judy to incriminate Steve and Steve’s father. She hoped Nick could use the evidence to protect Jen, but realizing that Jen hadn’t officially confessed, she had to backtrack.

Charlie has the letter, Jen confessed to Perez, and Steve’s body has been found, there are many web threads that could lead to Jen’s arrest.

“But she’s happy to confirm that the show will continue to navigate the complexities of friendship and heartbreak. It will also remain committed to normalizing women’s anger.

It should also be noted that Edward Asner, who played Abe Rifkin in Season 1, sadly passed away at the end of 2021. In an Instagram post, Liz Feldman paid tribute, saying:
