With the largest network of stem cell donor databases in the world, this non-profit organization works to “remove” cancer from the blood. DKMS held its annual gala in New York in October 2022, welcoming celebrities like Vera Wang, Jaime King, Marc Jacobs and Charly Sturm to the red carpet.

DKMS works to remove cancer from the blood. What makes this non-profit organization unique is its global impact and influence, with the largest network of stem cell donor databases in the world (11 million registered donors).

The “Facts and Figures” page states: “Our work also covers research and science in the field of stem cell donation and transplantation. Here you will find the most important information about the work carried out by DKMS.

With roots firmly planted in Germany, DKMS Global CEO Elke Neujahr appeared at the DKMS event in New York, as did actor Lilly Krug.

Chilean actor Leonor Varela was the first person on the red carpet. Since its establishment in Germany in 1991, the non-profit association has established offices in Germany, the United States, Poland, the United Kingdom, Chile and South Africa. In India, DKMS founded the DKMS-BMST joint venture with the Bangalore Medical Services Trust.

In October 2022, this non-profit organization held its annual gala in New York, raising funds and awareness for blood cancer. Several attendees had personal ties to this gala and the cause – Vera Wang was a supporter of DKMS “from the very beginning”, also present and honored at other galas.

Black Summer and White Chicks actor Jaime King shared that DKMS is his “best friend’s foundation.” It wouldn’t be her first appearance at the gala, as the celeb has also supported Stand Up to Cancer for over 15 years.

Designer and activist Marc Jacobs also appeared at the New York event, appearing on the red carpet with his partner. Other notable attendees include entrepreneur Lilly Princess zu Sayn Willgenstein, actor Charly Sturm, model Olivia Ponton and musical guest Aloe Blacc.

Aloe Blacc performed ‘I Need a Dollar’ at the 2022 DKMS gala

Aloe Blacc often uses his music as a platform for activism, primarily “Free”, which featured a criminal justice reform video posted on YouTube. For the 2022 DKMS gala, “Future in Your Hands” singer Aloe Blacc appeared as a featured musical guest.

“What we’re doing today,” he said before the event, “what I’m doing today is joining a huge community of people who have resources for, you know , encourage people to get involved in blood strain donation.”

The artist took the stage with a full band, thanking the participants for their contributions.
